Welcome to Rookies & Dragons
Welcome, adventurer. You've found yourself at the right place.
Rookies & Dragons exists for one reason: to be the guide that makes tabletop role-playing games feel approachable, not intimidating.
What is a TTRPG?
A tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) is a collaborative storytelling experience. One person — the Game Master or Dungeon Master — narrates the world. Everyone else plays a character living inside it. You make choices, roll dice, and see what happens.
That's it. There's no screen, no graphics card required, no loading times. Just imagination, some friends, and a set of funny-shaped dice.
Where to start
In a perfect world, the easiest entry point at the time of writing in 2026 is Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. It has the largest community, the most beginner resources, and a free rules document so you can try before you buy. But unless you have a friend with experience or some type of community in your local area, finding a starting point can feel like an insurmountable obstacle.
That is what I'm here for. To help guide you as you set off on this quest and give you the head start I wish I'd had when starting off on mine. This blog aims to show you alternative game systems, creative ways to play by yourself and with others, and any other helpful tips that will get the ball rolling as you find your feet in this hobby.
Stay tuned — drop your email below and I'll send you the first-session walkthrough the moment it goes up
